Form W-2 Generator: questions and answers

What is Form W-2?

Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, reports an employee's yearly wages and the federal, state, Social Security and Medicare taxes withheld from them. Employers give it to each employee and file it with the Social Security Administration.

When are W-2s due?

Employers must give W-2s to employees and file Copy A with the Social Security Administration by January 31 of the following year. W-2s for 2026 wages are due February 1, 2027, because January 31 falls on a Sunday.

Which W-2 copies does EZStub create?

EZStub creates Copy B (for the employee's tax return) and Copy C (for the employee's records). Copy A must be filed with the SSA electronically through SSA Business Services Online or on the scannable red-ink form, so EZStub does not replace that filing.

What goes in W-2 boxes 3 through 6?

Box 3 is Social Security wages (capped at $184,500 for 2026), box 4 is Social Security tax withheld (6.2%), box 5 is Medicare wages (no cap) and box 6 is Medicare tax withheld (1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000).
